HURRICANES

The hurricane is another natural disaster that can be linked to sea temperature rising and thus, global warming. A larger temperature difference in oceans could also be a possibility.

This is a satellite photo of Hurricane Elena.

One suggested theory is that when global warming causes the variance of water temperature to increase, the water closer to the surface heats up. Thus, when tropical storms combine with a larger temperature difference, they could become hurricanes.

This is a picture of what Hurricane Hugo looks like from above. Unlike the Elena picture from earlier, this Hugo picture was not taken by a satellite, it is merely a scientific drawing. Nevertheless, it is quite an imposing spectacle. It relates to several recent natural disasters that have occurred lately that might be the results of global warming. Hugo is one, of course. Hurricane Mitch, which has also struck as of late, is another.
