GOT QUESTIONS?

Here are some things we've been wondering about global warming. Some of them we've got answers for, or at least theories…others are ones that could sure use the help of some philosophers. Be sure to read the questions before you click on them, because if the question has been answered, it'll zing you right to the answer and the question won't be onscreen there. Questions marked with asterisks are questions we don't have the answers for, though some are linked to spots where you might be given a clue as to where to find the real answer. The questions aren't numbered because of computer problems, but there's only sixteen of them.

  1. How is biomass burning caused by global warming?
  2. How does biomass burning contribute to global warming?
  3. Why has there been such an increase in hurricanes as of late?*
  4. How much carbon dioxide was released by the burning in Yellowstone?*

Are natural disasters really on the rise, or does it just seem that way because of new technology?

  5. What was one of the most costly hurricanes that has happened recently?
  6. How much did it cost? How many were injured/killed? That sort of thing.*
  7. What's a major reason, besides greenhouse gases, that temperatures have been increasing as of late?

Just what is global warming, exactly?

  8. How will the melting of the polar ice caps affect the world?
  9. How do volcanoes contribute to global warming? How does global warming affect volcanic eruptions?
  10. Does global warming contribute to earthquakes?
  11. How does global warming affect tornadoes?
  12. How does global warming affect hurricanes?
  13. How does global warming affect El Niño? How does El Niño contribute to global warming?

Despite the fact that the earth's average temperature has only increased a mild amount (.45 degrees Celsius, to be exact), it seems to be causing quite a disturbance in natural disasters. Why is that?
